The use of current sources in industrial applications is widespread because the current-based signal provides higher noise immunity than voltage-based signals in a harsh industrial environment. Current is used to carry information signals in 4–20-mA loops and also for excitation of passive sensors like resistors. High-side current sources are generally trickier to design compared to lowside current sinks.
